Why I Write

I came here to the United States in 1994 from Malaysia to get a college degree with the intention of going back after graduating with an MA. Well, I am still here. Many things happened between then (first job out of college, fell in love, second, third job, fell out of love, US citizenship), and now found THE one and had a baby two babies. That's the short version of the story.

Just like any parent, I struggle with the day-to-day reality of parenthood but as an ex-Malaysian of Chinese-Indian descent with all of my family back home, I find it hard to reconcile my own childhood with the one I'm trying to provide for my girls. Fiercely proud of the culture and traditions that enriched my youth, I find that it has become imperative that I preserve my heritage for my girls, Little Miss and Pickle (formally known as Thumper), born 2.5 years apart.

And so, as Memory Keeper for our family, I write to chronicle, to archive, to preserve. This will be my legacy for my little ones. Replete with past and future reflections and snippets of our here and now, I guess you could say that this is the long version of the story.

Our story.

The Memory Keeper,
